British Conquest of India

The British did not conquer India in a single stroke — they rose from humble traders of the East India Company to the paramount power through a long chain of wars stretching from 1746 to 1849. The three Carnatic Wars crushed French ambitions, Plassey (1757) and Buxar (1764) handed them Bengal, and the Mysore, Maratha and Sikh wars finished the job. These notes trace that road to supremacy battle by battle, with the dates, players and treaties that exams love.
